Montebello Dog Park - NOW OPEN!

We’re excited to introduce this brand-new space where dogs can run, play, and socialize—right here in Montebello! This park is the result of thoughtful planning, strong community input, and a shared commitment to improving public spaces for all residents—two-legged and four-legged alike.

Dog Park Rules

  • Dogs must be leashed upon entering the dog park and upon exiting the dog park. 
  • Dogs must be accompanied by at least one person 18 or older. Children under the 
    age of 6 are not permitted in the off-leash area. Children 6 to 17 must be 
    accompanied and supervised by an adult (MMC 12.27.040). 
  • Dogs must be older than 4 months, vaccinated, licensed, and wearing current tags 
    (MMC 12.27.040).
  • No more than 3 dogs are allowed per adult (MMC 12.27.040). 
  • Dog owners must clean up after their pet.
  • No food allowed (for humans or canines). 
  • Aggressive dogs are not allowed in the park. Dogs exhibiting rough, aggressive, or 
    dangerous behavior are to be immediately removed (MMC 12.27.040). 
  • Any dog declared vicious or potentially dangerous pursuant to Montebello 
    Municipal Code Section 6.28.050, or any dog that has been declared “vicious,” 
    dangerous,” “potentially dangerous,” or a “public nuisance,” an attack dog, guard 
    dog, or sentry dog as defined in California Health and Safety Code Section 121875 et 
    seq., is not permitted to enter or remain in the dog park (MMC 12.27.040).
  • No digging permitted. Any holes created by a dog must be filled by the owner. 
  • No choke, pinch, or spiked collars are permitted. 
  • Each dog owner/handler must be physically capable of controlling their dog(s). All 
    owners/handlers are required to remain inside the dog park and be in view of their 
    dog(s) at all times (MMC 12.27.040).
  • Dog owners assume full liability and are legally responsible for any injuries 
    resulting from their actions as well as those of their pets. The owner of any dog is 
    liable for the damages suffered by any person who is bitten by the dog (CA Civil 
    Code Section 3342) 
  • Anyone who abandons an animal anywhere, including a dog park, is subject to a 
    $500 fine and/or up to six months in jail (CA Penal Code Section 597 s.).
  • Dog trainers may not use this dog park facility to conduct business. Permits are 
    required for all commercial or organized activity (MMC 12.027.040). 
  • No dog grooming is permitted in the dog park facility. 
  • No ill or injured dogs are permitted. 
  • Dogs must be spayed or neutered (MMC 12.027.040). 
  • No animals other than dogs are permitted in the dog park facility (MMC 12.27.040).
  • No bicycles, skates, or skateboards are permitted in the dog park facility. 
  • Use of this facility implies consent and agreement to the above policies in addition 
    to all City of Montebello Rules and Regulations.
